How Invisalign Works
Invisalign is an orthodontic option that uses a series of clear aligner trays that are virtually unnoticeable. Over the course of treatment, the trays gradually move your teeth into their ideal position, improving both the appearance and function of your smile. Invisalign can correct a range of alignment concerns, including:
- Overbite
- Underbite
- Overcrowding
- Crossbite
- Open bite
- Crooked teeth
- Gaps between teeth
Why Patients Prefer Clear Aligners
- Discreet — Clear trays are significantly less noticeable than traditional brackets and wires, making them a popular option among adults and teens.
- Removable — Aligners can be taken out for eating, brushing, and special occasions as long as you commit to wearing them for 22 hours each day.
- No Dietary Restrictions — Because the trays are removable, you don't have to limit your diet to certain foods.
- Faster Results — Treatment may take as few as six months to a year to correct your alignment, with new trays every four to six weeks.
- More Comfortable — The aligners lay flush with your teeth, so there is a lower chance of irritating the inside of your mouth.
Comparing Invisalign
and Braces
Invisalign is a strong solution for correcting mild to moderate misalignment, but certain patients may benefit from traditional braces instead. Severe misalignment or complex cases typically require braces and a longer timeframe. Here's how the two compare:
| Cost Before Insurance | Time | |
| Invisalign | $3,000 to $5,000 | 12-18 Months (as few as 6 months) |
| Braces | $3,000 to $7,000. | ~24 months (12 months to 3 years) |
Dr. Stragier offers both Invisalign and traditional braces. During your free consultation, he'll recommend the option that's the best fit for your needs.
What Does Invisalign Cost?
The cost of Invisalign treatment by Dr. Stragier can range from $3,000 to $5,000, depending on the extent of treatment you need. In other words, the longer your treatment will take, the more you can expect the treatment to cost. It's important to remember that investing in a solution like Invisalign can save you both time and money in the future. After all, a straighter smile is much easier to brush and floss, which can prevent decay and other issues. A straight smile is also far less likely to develop issues such as temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorder.

Paying for Invisalign Treatment
Though many people may think of Invisalign as a way to correct cosmetic concerns, correcting your misalignment can also prevent serious oral health problems. Because of this, insurance companies will usually contribute to the cost of treatment.
Our San Diego, CA, dental office prides itself on providing patients with high-quality care at affordable prices. We accept most insurances, offer payment plans, and accept CareCredit® financing to make out-of-pocket costs fit your budget.

View on GoogleIs Invisalign Right for You?
Before you begin treatment, Dr. Stragier will evaluate several factors during your free consultation to determine if you're a good candidate.
Degree of Misalignment
Invisalign corrects mild to moderate misalignment. If you have severe misalignment, you may be a better candidate for traditional braces.
Your Commitment
To be a good candidate, you must be dedicated to wearing the aligner trays for at least 22 hours each day. Failure to wear them for the correct amount of time can result in a longer treatment timeline and may reverse your progress.
Your Oral Health
Before and during treatment, it's important to practice good oral hygiene at home. We recommend brushing twice a day, flossing once a day, and using an oral rinse.
What If I Don't Treat Misalignment?
When left untreated, misalignment can lead to chipped or cracked teeth, worn tooth surfaces, tooth loss, jawbone atrophy, jaw strain, TMD, chronic headaches, and difficulty speaking and chewing.
Does Treatment Hurt?
There is generally only minor temporary discomfort. As you start treatment and each time you receive a new set of aligners, you may encounter some soreness as your teeth adjust. Some patients also experience temporary speech changes or bad breath while they get used to wearing and cleaning the trays.

View on GoogleInvisalign for Children and Teens
Minor dental misalignment in children can develop into major problems as an adult, including increased risk for decay, gum disease, and tooth loss. Correcting misalignment early can help develop young jaws and arches, make room for incoming permanent teeth, and make treatment more conservative and less expensive.
Children as young as seven can benefit from Invisalign as long as they can follow an at-home oral care routine and wear their aligner trays for the recommended time. If your child or teenager has mild to moderate misalignment and they're responsible enough to use Invisalign correctly, our San Diego, CA, team can provide them with comfortable treatment to straighten their teeth and help avoid serious oral health problems in the future.
